Guidance Notes

Blended Learning

Blended learning is a mixture of online teaching and support, and distance learning using the course materials on Moodle and your own research and reading.

Induction

In this opening online session you will be introduced to the course and its expectations by the course’s tutors.  You will receive an overview of the skills you will use and the College’s Moodle Learning Skills Module.

Online Teaching

Every unit will open with an online teaching session, usually two hours, using Microsoft Teams on the date shown in the timetable.  These dates will be set up at the start of the course and you will reactive an invitation to each of them. Participation in these sessions is mandatory. If you are unable to attend please let the tutor know in advance.

The tutor will introduce the unit and outline what you should be doing while distance studying using Moodle resources and your own research.  The tutor will brief you about the assignment.

You will also be offered face to face online tutorials with tutors as and when you wish to have one.

Distance Learning

This means studying on your own using the materials on Moodle and materials from your own research to write your assignments. In reality you are not on their own because you can contact tutors to arrange to meet online to discuss any problems you might have.  The tutors will also send copies anything new that is published while you are studying.

Assignments

Assignments must be submitted by the dates shown.  If you are unable to meet a deadline please let your tutor know in advance.  You must have a valid reason for not being able to meet the deadline, e.g., illness or caring responsibilities. In such circumstances your tutor can give you an extension of up to two weeks.

Your tutor will look at a draft of your first assignment and give you some very general feedback; thereafter, your tutor will only be able to look at drafts of work for resubmission.
