If you would like to develop a career in accountancy and want an industry recognised qualification then this is the course for you.

You already have an existing Level 2 qualification in accounting or bookkeeping or relevant work experience and want to expand your skills. If you don’t have this then our AAT Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship (Level 2 Pathway) will be the best route for you.

During this qualification, you will learn more complex finance officer processes e.g. final accounts for sole traders and partnerships. Build on existing accounting knowledge, gain more specialist skills in related areas and gain a greater understanding of the ethical issues involved with accountancy.

This course is also delivered off-site at St Mellion.

  What You Will Learn

You will learn more complex accounting tasks, such as preparing final accounts for sole-traders and partnerships, cost accounting records, reports and returns, financial spreadsheets and ethics.

Topics include:
• Advanced Bookkeeping- consolidates and introduces new areas such as accounting for non-current assets and using the extended trial balance. You will deal with adjustments for closing inventory, accrued and prepaid expenses and income, and how these are incorporated into an extended trial balance. Provisions for depreciation on non-current assets, irrecoverable debts and allowances for doubtful debts are also to be calculated and accounted for.
• Final Accounts Preparation - This unit is concerned with preparing final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, incorporating elements of dealing with incomplete records, and an appropriate understanding of the principles that underpin the preparation of final accounts.
• Management Accounting: Costing - You will develop an understanding of how costs are handled in organisations, and why different organisations treat costs in different ways. You should be able to recognise different approaches to cost accounting and make informed and reasoned judgements to guide management.

  Entry Requirements

You need to have achieved the AAT Level 2 qualification, have A-levels or extensive experience in bookkeeping. A commitment to study outside college attendance is important. Please enquire if you are at all unsure as to your suitability the course manager will be happy to discuss the course and its content with you. *Candidates are responsible for their own AAT registration and membership fee.

  Assessment

There will be various online assessments to complete throughout the course.

AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

This accountancy apprenticeship is for those wanting to train on the job and to study advanced accounting to obtain an internationally recognised professional accounting qualification. You already have an existing Level 3 qualification in accounting and want to develop more complex accounting knowledge, gain more specialist skills in related areas such as tax. During this qualification, you will learn advanced accounting skills e.g. financial statements for limited companies, complex management accounting tasks, management skills and specialist learning areas. Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting Technician will have responsibility for creating, and / or verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation. This will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation.
