BA (Hons) Counselling Studies (Part-time)

This part-time top-up course is taught over two years and is only open to candidates who have successfully the HE Level 5 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling at Cornwall College and who wish to progress their studies to achieve an honours degree in counselling studies. It also carries a professional qualification as a Counselling Supervisor on successful completion of the course. Please note, that there is no automatic progression route between our courses. Diploma in Person-centred Counselling & Therapy

Level 5 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne

This programme is for those wishing to train to become a professional counsellor. It carries Gold Standard Accreditation awarded by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and successful completion means that you can practice independently as a qualified counsellor. For our next intake, attendance is required 1 day a week 9.30am to 4.30pm, term time only for 2 years. The programme contains an in-depth module on personal development, as well as counselling practice, professional development and counselling theory and psychology modules. You will develop your counselling skills, your understanding of the counselling process and expand your ability to be in a professional relationship with your client. You will do this within a Person-Centred or Integrated framework and in the second year you will visit a range of counselling models. You will be required to carry out 100 hours of counselling work with clients (in addition to counselling practice with peers) over the duration of the programme through placements with counselling agencies across Cornwall. We have strong links with placement providers and can support this process. You will need to keep accurate records of your client work, and if the placement does not provide supervision, you will need to engage a counselling supervisor to support your client work. Again, we can offer you guidance with this. Undertaking personal counselling whilst you are on the course is required and we would expect a minimum of 12 sessions. Additional expenses to budget for throughout the programme (please note these are the current sums and are subject to change): Personal counselling – approximately £5 upwards per hour Supervision – if not paid for or supplied by your placement, approximately £25 upwards per hour for individual supervision and approximately £20 per hour for group supervision. Across 2 years this will amount to around £400 Enhanced DBS Certificate (DBS means Disclosure and Barring Service, previously known as the Enhanced CRB) – £44. Students will need to meet the cost of their own DBS; however, many placements provide these free of charge. Please note, that there is no automatic progression route between our courses. Access to Nursing, Health and Social Care

Level 3 • Full-time • Cornwall College Camborne

Access courses are designed as a stepping stone to enable motivated, enthusiastic people to progress on to Higher Education. The course is challenging and requires full attendance and absolute commitment to allow you to fully maximise your opportunities; you will have access to a range of support mechanisms to enable you to develop the key academic competencies to contribute towards successful progression. The course runs from September until the end of June/early July. If you choose to study this Access course at our Saltash campus, you'll be expected to attend 2 days per week. The course may also run from Saltash 2 evenings and 1 full day per week (subject to course numbers). This is a challenging course and it is expected that students will complete a minimum of 15 hours of independent study each week. Students may access college facilities on the days that they are not taught with some evening study available. Please also be advised that most universities require work experience to complement your UCAS application-therefore it is highly recommended that you are working within the health care sector in either a voluntary or paid capacity.
