The PGCE is designed for graduates who would like to become a qualified teacher in the Further Education sector. The PGCE incorporates the Diploma in Education and Training (DET). This qualification will allow you to meet the initial training requirements for membership of the Society for Education and Training and will underpin an application for Qualified Teacher of Learning and Skills (QTLS) status

A teaching placement is an essential requirement of this course. During the course this placement will inform taught sessions and enable you to contextualise and apply key principles of learning.

  Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a degree qualification and a minimum grade C or above in GCSE English and maths or equivalent qualifications.

  Assessment

Assessment of each module will be through both coursework and practice elements (including teaching observations). There are no formal exams associated with this course.

You will carry out teaching practice for at least 100 contact hours, where you will also get invaluable help from other experienced teachers of your subject. Your tutor will support both parts of your training, alongside other experienced teachers who will regularly observe and support your development as a teacher.

Online NCFE L2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (Evening Course)

If you wish to become a fully qualified counsellor, develop helping skills or if you are simply interested in the field of counselling then the NCFE Counselling Studies at Level 2 is your starting point qualification. You can study with us at our Camborne Campus on a 15 week day course or a 20 week evening course. The day course will be held on Wednesdays 9.30am to 3.30pm and the evening course will held on Mondays from 5.00pm to 8.30pm.Alternatively, we are running a 15 week day course at our St Austell Campus. This will be held on Tuesday’s 9.30am to 3.30pm or we are running an Online Course. This will be on Tuesday’s from 5.00pm-8.30pm across 20 weeks. The cost is £510 for those who are self-funding however fees are waived for low income applications. We have two intakes in September and March, and all students who successfully complete their courses, from both intakes, will be able to progress to further counselling courses in the following September. The course will introduce you to counselling theory, we will focus on the Person-Centred paradigm as this is the counselling approach which underpins all our counselling training at Cornwall College. You will get the chance to practice counselling skills with your peers and receive feedback from tutor observations. You will also learn about the professional boundaries and ethical standards that counsellors adhere to and the wide ranging opportunities that a career in counselling can offer. Please note, that there is no automatic progression route between our courses. Each qualification requires a rigorous assessment process including an interview, and due to limited places, you may be placed on a waiting list or may not be successful on your first application.

Leading The Internal Quality Assurance Of Assessment Processes And Practice City & Guilds Certificate

Level 4 • Part-time • Cornwall College Camborne, Cornwall College St Austell


This course is suitable for you if you are a practitioner who Leads the Internal Quality Assurance Process, within an Assessment Centre/Organisation; and have a responsibility for managing the quality of the assessment process, practice and the performance of Assessors. They may also develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as Awarding Organisations. A one day induction to the course will cover the background knowledge and understanding aspects of the Award and the role as the Lead Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) you will be required to carry out. Within the Assessment Centre, you will Lead the QA process and allocate work, within your own area of responsibility. As an IQA you will also be required to work closely with at least two assessors, each with a minimum of two candidates of their own, through components of a qualification. In your role as Lead IQA, you will also work with and co-ordinate with others from External Agencies i.e. Awarding Organisations, as well as meeting with your Course Tutor/Assessor regularly and build a portfolio of evidence.
