If you love promoting the health and wellbeing of others holistically, this is the course for you. This is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a reflexologist. This course encourages practical learning you will spend time in our treatment rooms working on clients, learning as you go and perfecting your skills in a supportive and knowledgeable environment. It will enable you to work in industry within a healthcare setting, for yourself, with in a spa, salon or wellbeing centre.

This course is made up of four units:

Principals and Practice of Complementary Therapies - The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge and understanding of the history and influences on the complementary therapy sector

Business Practice for Complementary Therapies - The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge, understanding and practical skills in researching, planning, maintaining and marketing a business in the complementary therapy industry. You will also learn to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

Anatomy and physiology for Complementary Therapies - The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Provide Reflexology for Complementary Therapies – the aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to carry out reflexology using a range of techniques. You will also develop knowledge of reading of the feet.

These skills combined will give you the enthusiasm to work in a rapidly growing industry, for yourself or in a health care setting.

During you time with us at college we will also hope to take you into industry so you can see and experience for yourself different career options.

  What You Will Learn

You will learn what it is like to work in the complementary therapies industry and how to work professionally within it. You will also develop knowledge of business and marketing to help you succeed in your new career path.

You will learn the anatomy, physiology and pathologies in detail for each of the systems of the body. As well as learning how to develop a bespoke treatment plan for each client you will work with client for several treatment building a case study.

By the end of the course you will off completed at least 100 reflexology treatments which will leave you feeling confident to work on a wide range of clients.

  Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements are needed. However, good communication skills, good literacy and ICT ability is required, as well as being able to study independently and keep to deadlines.

  Work Experience

We offer a programme of short courses that will enhance your skills and ability.

  Assessment

To gain this qualification, you must successfully achieve the following assessments;

-Principals and practice of complementary therapies assignment, include three outcomes
-Business practice of complementary therapies assignment, includes 3 outcomes
-Anatomy and physiology includes twelve assignments and 2 hour exam
-Provide Reflexology includes completion of 100 treatments written up including reflection and three final observations.

You will be well supported whilst achieving this criteria.

  Progression

Following this course you may wish to progress onto Diploma in Aromatherapy, Certificate in Swedish Massage or study Body and Spa Therapy at Level 3. Or you may want to progress straight into industry, a healthcare setting, spa, salon or become self-employed.

Sports Massage Level 3

The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is focused towards those seeking to gain employment as a sports massage therapist working with the general public and athletes. The qualification consists of five mandatory units: Anatomy and physiology for sports massage Principles of health and fitness Professional practice in sports massage Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction Sports massage treatments Through this qualification you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to competently apply sport massage methods to dysfunctional tissue and in a pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage context. This includes professional practice, expected standards and related legislation and legal requirements. You will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sports massage and the principles of health and fitness which combined will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how sports massage can help. In addition you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction and injury and the role that sports massage plays.
