The Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy is focused towards those seeking to gain employment as a sports massage therapist working with the general public and athletes. The qualification consists of five mandatory units:

Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
Principles of health and fitness
Professional practice in sports massage
Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
Sports massage treatments

Through this qualification you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to competently apply sport massage methods to dysfunctional tissue and in a pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage context. This includes professional practice, expected standards and related legislation and legal requirements. You will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sports massage and the principles of health and fitness which combined will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how sports massage can help. In addition you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction and injury and the role that sports massage plays.

  What You Will Learn

You will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology related to sports massage and the principles of health and fitness which combined will equip you to better understand the athlete, the problems they may be incurring and how sports massage can help. In addition you will develop an understanding of the differences between soft tissue dysfunction and injury and the role that sports massage plays.

Students will be required to read, revise and study at home to support their learning and help prepare for the theory exams.

To gain this qualification you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. Evidence may take the following:

Observed work
Witness statements
Audio-visual media
Evidence of prior learning or attainment
Written questions
Oral questions
Assignments
Case studies

All evidence should be documented in the portfolio and cross-referenced to unit outcomes. Constructing the portfolio of evidence should not be left to the end of the course.

Models may be required for some of the practise and assessment practical sessions.

Students also get to work on members of the public in the college therapy rooms enhancing your work skills and client contact.

  Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification. However, a good standard of English and the ability and motivation to self-study as this is a fast track course that requires the student to study to a high standard.

  Assessment

Theory is delivered and in house exams are set, however emphasis is placed on practical learning. Paying clients are to be used for practical assessment.

Alongside the theory you will produce a portfolio of your work which will be verified and should include assessment books, projects, and theoretical work

  Progression

This qualification may lead directly into employment as a Level 3 Sports massage practitioner, providing pre, post, intra/inter and maintenance massage. This may include working in clinics, for sporting teams or as a mobile therapist. This may be in an employed or self-employed context. It is always an advantage to offer as many different treatments as possible to your clients and at Cornwall College we offer a full range of Holistic qualifications.

The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as an aromatherapist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as an aromatherapist. This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as an aromatherapist including mandatory units covering the following: knowledge and understanding of complementary therapy concepts, business practice, anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies. You will also develop your understanding and practical skills to competently provide aromatherapy services. This course is run one day a week for 36 weeks. The day will consist of both theory and practical studies. There is a substantial amount of assignment work required for this course and would advise 4-6 hours per week study at home. Students will love our links to industry. We also offer spa trips and in house complimentary training with our Eve Taylor product range as well as offering an extensive programme of short courses that will enhance your skills and ability.

Hairdressing Diploma

Level 3 • Full-time • Cornwall College Camborne, Cornwall College St Austell


A progression route for Level 2 hairdressers wanting to gain employment within the hairdressing industry. This course is aimed at learners wishing to further their existing hairdressing skills in advanced techniques. You will be expected to attend College for two/three days a week and will be required to work to high professional standards. You will train in one of our industry standard salons, work in a realistic environment and use the latest equipment, machinery and products within the industry. When you are confident enough and have practiced the techniques to a level 3 standard, you will be able to provide services to paying customers. Alongside the training, you will be required to complete work related experience within the industry to enrich your programme of study and gain employability skills. You are also required to complete course work and research in your own time towards completion of this qualification.
