Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings

Level 2 • Full-time • Cornwall College Camborne, Cornwall College St Austell

Do you enjoy being around children, have an interest in child development and are patient, caring, enthusiastic and enjoy being creative? But most of all do you have a sense of fun? This one year course will allow you to get hands on in a childcare setting and Primary School, interacting with children and being part of a team whose main aim is to provide a caring and enabling environment. You will take part in a weekly work placement and attend college in order to complete the course. You will take part in practical and theory lessons, in well- equipped classrooms that replicate the childcare and Primary School settings. Our classrooms are well furnished with educational furniture and resources that allow you to explore the world of all ages of children, from learning about nappy changing, to preparing bottles, making nutritious food, to setting up an exciting and educational play environment, and getting creative with arts and crafts and sensory play. You will be taught by sector experienced tutors who are there to fully support you in your chosen career.

BA (Hons) Children, Schools and Families

This 1 year top up programme builds on your knowledge of working with children and young people across the workforce and will further develop your understanding of the broad range of provision available in the UK and elsewhere. You will examine a range of services, systems, working practices and policies relating to children, schools and families and will cover subject areas such as sociology, psychology, philosophy and education. The programme will prepare you for working with children and young people by integrating theory and practice in preparation for a rewarding career. The assessment opportunities embedded within the modules provide the ability for you to shape your own programme of study to meet your individual interests. The programme is offered either on a full-time basis over one year, or part-time over two years. This provides the choice for you to focus full-time on your studies or to continue to work and study by taking advantage of the flexibility of part-time provision. The degree provides the opportunity to not only up-skill to degree level, but also to develop your knowledge in areas of professional and personal interest. The programme is suited to existing practitioners in the children and young people’s workforce, along with new foundation degree graduates just beginning their career in this sector.
