Apprentice chef is one of the best in the South West

Catering apprentice, Lauren King, from CCB (Cornwall College Business) has excelled in the finals of South West Chef of the Year. Lauren King who is currently undertaking a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Culinary Skills at Cornwall College Saltash with The Horn of Plenty Hotel near Tavistock prepared, cooked and presented some incredible dishes under the close eye of several experienced judges.

South West Chef of the Year is open to a variety of culinary enthusiasts and contains five classes; Professional, Young Professional, Student Chef, Home Cook and Junior.

Apprentice raises the roof at national competition

A Cornwall College St Austell apprentice has triumphed at the WorldSkills UK roofing, slating and tiling final held in Birmingham after he beat off strong competition from some of the best young roofers across the United Kingdom to take the silver.

Sam Blount, a roofing, slating and tiling apprentice through CCB (Cornwall College Business) and employed by Graham Barker Roofing Services Ltd, progressed to the final through the South West heat of the competition held at the St Austell campus earlier this year.

Cornwall Council’s Safeguarding Advocates become Dementia Friends

Across the UK over 850,000 people have been diagnosed with dementia and that number is forecast to increase to over 1 million by 2025 and over 2 million by 2051. Recognising this, Cornwall Council is supporting the Dementia Friends programme; which aims to raise awareness of dementia and create an understanding of how to provide support to those living with dementia.  Last week over 100 Cornwall Council Safeguarding Advocates, completed the  dementia awareness session with Cornwall College.
