Awards seeking excellence in business across the region

The 2018 Excellence in Business Training Awards is opening for entries from the 2nd October 2017.

Now in its eleventh year, the awards are hosted by CCB part of The Cornwall College Group and attract hundreds of applications from large and small companies from all sectors across the South West.

“The awards are always a fantastic celebration of local business success,” said Sally Foard, Director of CCB. 

Pendennis Shipyard nominated for National Apprenticeship Award

One of Cornwall’s leading marine businesses is celebrating another prestigious national apprenticeship award nomination.

Pendennis Shipyard Ltd has been put forward for the ‘Employer of the Year’ nomination for the National Apprenticeship Award, and has been invited to attend the regional finals, held at Doubletree Hilton South Cadbury House Hotel, Bristol on 3rd October.

Westminster reception for national Apprentice of the Year finalist

A Cornish apprentice is one of just three people in the running to be crowned national Apprentice of the Year.

George Autie, 25 from Helston, has been invited by the Association of Colleges (AoC) to attend a celebratory reception in Westminster and will find out if he has been victorious at the AoC conference in November.

Working as an electrician for specialist overwater drilling and marine construction contractor, Fugro, George said he was “very proud” to be considered for the award.

A senior business and finance lecturer in Cornwall with over twenty years’ experience delivering degree and other professional courses, has just had his first technical reference book published.

Dr Bryan Mills who works for Cornwall College in Pool identified an opportunity for a concise text focusing on the most common problems and equations students at degree level are likely to face.

Third of global businesses don’t know if they are compliant

An alarming study has revealed that more than a third of global businesses are unsure whether they are compliant when it comes to data privacy.

The study, sponsored by Watchguard Technologies, found that 37% were unsure if they needed to comply with the GDPR – the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years, which comes into force on 25th May 2018.

With the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force on 25th May 2018 – the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years, UK organisations that control or process the personal data of EU residents have just eight months to ensure that they are compliant.

Organisations found to be in breach of the Regulation can expect administrative fines of up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million for the most serious infringements – whichever is greater.
