GDPR and employment law changes – should businesses be doing more to prepare?

An alarming study has revealed that more than a third of global businesses are unsure whether they are compliant when it comes to data privacy.

The study, sponsored by Watchguard Technologies, found that 37% were unsure if they needed to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years, which comes into force on 25th May 2018.

Pendennis Shipyard Ltd, one of Cornwall’s leading marine businesses is celebrating being named ‘South West Large Employer of the Year’.

After successfully getting through the South West regional finals, held at Doubletree Hilton South Cadbury House Hotel in Bristol, Pendennis will now go through to the national final which will take place on 18 January 2018 in London.

New accreditation means greater food safety for South West

The South West is set to benefit from a greater range of food safety qualifications thanks to a training provider gaining accreditation status. 

Staff at CCB (Cornwall College Business) are celebrating their recent Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) Approved Centre accreditation.

It means CCB can now offer a wider range of food safety qualifications to businesses and individuals across the region.

Develop your marketing career through funded training

Individuals and businesses wishing to up-skill their staff in marketing can now do so through the Rising Stars programme.

Delivered by CCB (Cornwall College Business), project manager Kate Poole said it is “a fantastic opportunity for individuals and businesses”.

“Through fully-funded marketing workshops, one-to-one support and guidance along with an opportunity to progress onto part-funded Professional Marketing Certificate Level 4, accredited by Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the funding will up-skill businesses and their staff,” she continued.

Apprenticeships thriving in South West with 650 new starts in September

Demonstrating the ever-increasing popularity of the apprenticeship pathway into employment, the region’s largest apprenticeship provider has noted more than 650 new apprentices in September.

Staff at CCB, the employer-facing arm of the Cornwall College Group (TCCG), already have another 300 new apprentices set to start their new careers before December.

“As the largest provider of apprenticeships in the South West, we are thrilled to be supporting our new apprentices on their career journey,” commented Raoul Humphreys, CEO and Principle of The Cornwall College Group.
