Equine groom apprenticeship fundamental for the welfare of horses

In an effort to keep up with innovation and technological progress within the multi-billion pound equine industry, a new apprenticeship has been developed.

Bicton College and Duchy College have supported the fast-paced sector by delivering the new Level 2 Equine Groom standard apprenticeship that has been designed by employers for employers.

“The equine groom is a fundamental occupational role in all equine businesses, and vital to an industry that contributes over £8bn to the British economy each year,” the Institute for Apprenticeships stated.

Putting the golf back in the greens

But it takes a great deal of knowledge and passion to maintain these masterpieces, and with this in mind, a college in Cornwall has launched a new Golf Greenkeeping apprenticeship.

Duchy College at Stoke Climsland near Callington has worked in conjunction with employers to develop the apprenticeship, ensuring it meets business needs.

Safety in Cornwall smashes national average with 100% pass rate

Delegates and staff at CCB Training, part of the Cornwall College Group (TCCG), are celebrating 100% pass rate from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH).

It was an incredible achievement considering the national average pass rate is 66%.

Delegates from Cornwall Fire & Rescue Services, CMT Services, Peninsula Learning Trust, Duchy College and Cornwall College came together to celebrate their achievements at a presentation hosted at Cornwall College, St Austell.

Funding extension cherry on top of 100% marketing pass rate

Delegates and staff at CCB Training, part of the Cornwall College Group, are celebrating after another 100% pass rate from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

The good news continued with the announcement that funding to deliver CIM workshops and courses has been extended.

All delegates taking the Certificate in Professional Marketing passed their rigorous assignments laid down by the industry’s body.

New funding set to develop leaders

Existing and future leaders are being given a helping hand to develop the skills needed to lead their business through change with eyes firmly fixed on Brexit.

CCB Training, part of the Cornwall College Group (TCCG) are the project lead and along with their delivery partner will receive up to £1.5m of funding from the European Social Fund as part of the 2014-2020 European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England.

New apprenticeships help future proof the food and drink sector

A range of new and existing apprenticeship standards including Butcher, Baker and Food & Drink Process Operator are now available in Cornwall.

The new Baker standard will replace the Bakery Level 2 apprenticeship framework that was successfully run by Duchy College and CCB Training, part of The Cornwall College Group, working with local bakers including Chough Bakery, Prima Bakeries and Warrens Bakery.

Apprentices head to London to discuss Brexit

Agricultural apprentices from Cornwall and Devon have hit the capital to discuss rural issues and Brexit with a DEFRA minister and the NFU.

The Level 4 agricultural business management apprentices had an action packed day in London, which included a debate in the Houses of Parliament with Neil Parish MP, followed by lunch on the terrace.

Student, Ryan James, from Beaworthy, said it was “a great opportunity for us to be able to discuss these issues with an MP and to be able to do this in Westminster was brilliant”.

Fully-funded training for low income adults

In a major boost for more than 50,000 adults in Cornwall, new funding rules are set to give low income earners free training.

The Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has released details stating that funding rules for adult education will be changing from 1st August.

These changes to the Adult Education Budget (2018-19) will provide more opportunities for businesses to upskill their workforce through training.

Two local apprentices represent Cornwall at regional event

Two young apprentices from Cornwall have represented the county at an annual construction competition.

Hosted by the Guild of Bricklayers in Swindon, the pair came away with heads held high.

The regional event tested their technical and practical bricklaying abilities, giving the apprentices the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of peers and industry leaders.

Competing for The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) were Thomas Wills a level 3 apprentice and Jordan Knuckey a first year level 2 apprentice, both from Camborne.

Devon and Cornwall businesses invited to apprenticeship recruitment event

Businesses from across Devon and Cornwall are being invited to events where they can meet their future star apprentices.

CCB Training part of the Cornwall College Group will be hosting its fourth annual Get Hired apprenticeship recruitment events this spring, with an event being held in Devon for the second time.

Taking place on Wednesday 25th April across the Saltash, St Austell, Camborne and Bicton College campuses, Get Hired will run from 5pm to 7.00pm.
